Power is corrupting once again I see. Curse that pesky Prime Directive.
Also, watching this episode again I’m fairly sure that the Mintakans live on the same planet where Kirk fought the Gorn. Either that all all planets look alike. . . I suppose that was always true in Dr Who.
So I was trying to figure out how to do a Christmas comic, considering Star Trek is so very non-religious and doesn’t really reference the existence of religion very often, let alone Christmas. I could only come up with two occurrences of Christmas in all of Star Trek – one reference to a Christmas party that Captain Kirk attended (TOS:Dagger of the Mind), and the bit in the 7th movie Generations, when Picard enters the Nexus and has a family. Neither was all that funny.
It also occurred that not only do they not do religion, and that Christmas would confuse all sorts of other non-human races serving aboard Starfleet vessels, but they don’t even have months and years, or indeed seasons. They’re in space. It’s bound to be snowing somewhere on lots of planets, and everything is done in Stardates. Not sure if they have a concept of December.
Anyway, sorry about all that, I thought maybe all that might have been going somewhere, but instead it appears I was just talking crap at you. So, a Merry Christmas to you all. Evil Picard may take a short hiatus over the festive period – think of it as a chance for me to recharge my creative energy banks. They’re clearly running on empty :P
Oh noes! Animal Farm in Space! This is likely to continue if I can think of any more animal puns. Or Q may turn up and veto it, I’m not sure.
There are of course no video games in the future, only simple games with the computer, and the holodeck. Quite why Strategema requires milking machines to be attached to your fingers we may never know. Perhaps Kolrami just had more finger-milk. Ewww.
Foolish Romulans. You build such big ships with big empty space in the middle, just so it looks large.
Yes, I had all week and this was all that came into my head.
Oh dear, barrel-scraping commences, or maybe it’s another brush with that dreaded narrative thing. I guess we’ll find out in future comics a few Centons from now. When I figure out what the frak that means.
That’s right Battlestar Noobies, Pyramid is a card game, not space-lacrosse – that’s Triad. And Starbuck is a very male role-model for us all. Not only an excellent Viper pilot and Colonial Warrior, but eventually he even made it big with his own chain of coffee shops. One day I will see him in there, I just know it.
Ahh, Mr Barclay, you just did what everyone else had been thinking. I love this episode (Hollow Persuits) – pure escapism. I’ve always thought it odd that there are no locks on holodeck doors in The Next Generation. I guess poor Geordi broke them all to avoid mopping-up duty.
